Celebrating Multilingual Excellence at TG International School’s Language Week

TG International School (TGIS) came alive as the school community gathered to mark the Khmer New Year in a joyful, meaningful way. The morning began with a vibrant showcase of traditional Khmer dances, including the Trot Dance, Robam Chai Yam and Robam Chun Por. The graceful movements, lively rhythms and beautiful costumes captivated the audience, offering a rich glimpse into Cambodia’s cultural heritage, and setting a festive tone for the day.

At its core, Language Week was more than an academic exercise  it was an opportunity for students to connect using language as a powerful tool for expression, understanding and global awareness. Each activity was designed to match the developmental stage of students, ensuring that learning remained both accessible and inspiring.

For grades 1 to 3, students participated in a reading and writing challenge that focused on translation skills. By translating English passages into Chinese and Khmer, young learners developed an appreciation for the structure and beauty of different languages, while strengthening their foundational literacy skills.

For grades 7 to 8, the focus shifted to topic writing, allowing students to demonstrate more advanced literacy skills by composing original pieces in English, Khmer and Chinese. This challenge nurtures creativity, confidence, and the ability to communicate ideas effectively using multiple languages.

Language Week reflected the school’s commitment to nurturing globally minded learners who are confident communicators. By embracing multilingualism, students not only strengthened their academic abilities, but also developed a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity and the world around them.
